Profile
David Talbot Wilson F.C Inst.M., N.D.D.
Even before graduating with a N.D.D. from Liverpool's College of Art, where he specialised in Technicial Illustration, David could
always draw as a child. The high discipline of measured perspective holds no fears for accurate sketching.
This has stood him in good stead over the years.
From the Art School he joined the aviation industry as a Technicial
Illustrator before moving on to Massey Ferguson tractors illustrating and designing brochures, advertisements
and exhibition stands. David then moved quickly into the ad-agency scene in Liverpool in a creative team, finally starting
his own advertising/studio business in 1962. |
Concentrating on advertising and marketing eventually with a head office
in Chester, Manchester and London, which at their height, turned over £12 million and employed a staff of 60 people.
Sadly with the downturn in advertising, they were hit by three bad debts, which forced the closure of the agency group.
From then on he carried out work for his remaining clients from home with a skeleton staff and started to do his own creative work
again after many years with in-house studio. Inevitability, small-scale advertising does not attract new clients and the
business started to shrink and his work load became less and less. So He started to paint !
David never looked back. He started with his first love, sailing craft, accepting some commisions for friends boats, then houses
and dogs and even horses. He has now moved into the people portraits market. David sells paintings at various exhibitions and
organises exhibitions and his own one man shows. |
 |
His drawing skills help in the accuracy of his boat paintings and also with
an interest in wildlife subjects. Interest in boats and water, stems from his childhood living by the sea, from fishing to sailing.
His involvement with the local shrimping gaffers and his helping in founding the 'Nobby Owners Association' plus being president of
the Seabird 1/2 Raters gives him understanding of sails, riggings, sea state and movement, which helps with his marine paintings.
